Ellison’s Towing was potentially eligible for historic recognition and in need of a seismic rehabilitation when the owners decided to lease it to IDEO for the center of their Downtown Palo Alto campus. Removing the hazardous, unreinforced masonry along non-street facing facades and inserting a new, two-story, office addition, with a feature glass walled lobby, between the restored masonry walls maintained the relationship to the street and gave the client an iconic building for their downtown campus.
