Having recently completed the Ellision’s building across the street, the design of this new, two-story, office and retail building presented the opportunity to respond to the corner in a similar way as Ellison’s with solid walls and punched openings defining the street edges on both sides of this very busy intersection. Set back from the corner , sheltered by the building walls, a public courtyard space serves the coffee shop within with outdoor space and provides pedestrian activity. The busy thoroughfare side of the building, opposite the commuter railway, has a wall of windows allowing natural light to wash the second floor office space. The linear form and rhythm of the facade references the railway context.
